It’s going to be that time of the year again – time to celebrate our four-legged, furry or finned members of the family with a pet festival as the Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue & Adoption Center hosts Animal Awareness Day, noon – 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2020 on the Branford Town Green.
The fun day has something for all ages, including live music, children’s activities, food trucks, live animals (mini horses!), live animal educational demonstrations, huge bake sale, booths featuring a variety of area animal care and rescue groups, as well as business vendors whom we all patronize to give our pets the best life possible, and you never know what other surprises may happen!

Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue & Adoption Center kicks off 2020 with two fundraisers to keep the kitties warm and fed this winter. The first is a food and supply drive on Saturday, January 25 (snow date is Feb 1) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its shelter, located at 2037 Foxon Rd. The kitties’ wish list includes Purina Friskies Chicken or Turkey Pate, Blue Buffalo Healthy Gourmet Chicken or Turkey Pate for cats or kittens, Earthborn Feline Primitive dry cat food and Yesterday’s News cat litter. BCC’s second fundraiser, “Hearts for Cats,” runs during the entire month of February. It’s the purrfect gift for your valentine cat lover. With a donation of $25 or $50 you can dedicate a heart on BCC’s Donor Wall Tree of Life to that special valentine or pet. Pink hearts can be purchased with a $25 donation and red hearts with a $50. The name of that special person or pet will be inscribed on the pink or red heart painted on the donor wall tree. All donations will benefit the BCC homeless cats.
BCC is in great need of volunteers at the shelter to help feed, clean and socialize our cats. There are immediate opening for morning and evening shifts. Volunteer application forms can be found on the website or call 203-483-6369. You can also stop by any Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cats and kittens will surely help you get rid the winter blues and put a smile on your face.
Branford Compassion Club will be holding its Annual Holiday Cookie Sale on Saturday, December 14, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at BCC Feline Rescue and Adoption Center Lobby, 2037 Foxon Road. Great selection of cookies will be available baked by elves and only $5 for a baker’s dozen. Plated and wrapped cookies will also be available for the purrfect holiday hostess gift. And while you are there, don’t forget to check out the Wishing Tree.
The Wishing Tree fundraiser runs from Saturday, November 30 through Saturday, January 4, 2020. Choose a gift tag off the tree and return with your gift for the kitties any Saturday during December. KICK BACK BEFORE KICKOFF AT NOVEMBER 3 COOL CATS JAZZ BRUNCH BENEFIT FOR BRANFORD COMPASSION CLUB
The Branford Compassion Club is presenting an encore of its popular Cool Cats Jazz Brunch benefit emceed by WTNH News 8 anchor Darren Kramer and featuring the esteemed Jeff Fuller and the Neighborhood Music School Premier Jazz Ensemble.

The cool jazz of the Premier Jazz Ensemble quintet sets just the right vibe for a little repast before the Sunday football slate. If the music doesn’t chill you out, the club’s stunning views of Long Island Sound will, not to mention its renowned Sunday brunch. There will be a silent auction and cash bar.
Proceeds help defray operating costs at the nonprofit’s Feline Rescue & Adoption Center, 2037 Foxon Road, North Branford, and support its mission to feed, shelter and care for homeless, abandoned and feral cats and educate the public about the importance of spay/neuter population control responsible pet ownership and kindness to animals through community outreach.
“We are thrilled to bring back Jeff Fuller and his talented musicians, and we thank Darren for giving up a Sunday for us,” said BCC President Peg Johnson. “It’s a wonderful way to enjoy some great music and help our cause at the same time.”
Fuller, a performer, teacher and composer, is one of the most sought-after musicians in Connecticut. The award-winning bassist has toured with such greats as Dizzy Gillespie, Mose Allison, “Papa” Jo Jones, Gerry Mulligan and Clark Terry. Fuller was the 2014 recipient of the annual Jazz Haven Award for “presenting and preserving the culture of jazz.” His trio featuring pianist Darren Litzie and drummer Ben Bilello has released three CDs.
Kramer, the popular anchor of WTNH News 8, has been in the news business for more than three decades. The Wisconsin native is a talented amateur photographer who gives generously of his time to charities. He has a large following on Twitter, where he is a prolific Tweeter of both wry commentary and news postings.

Main St. DePascale is a spirit medium who has the ability to connect with loved ones and pets that have crossed over to the other side.
