Branford Compassion Club Kitties Offer Big ‘Thank You’ at March Open House

It’s party time at the Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue & Adoption Center.

Yes, the cats are throwing an open-house party Sunday, March 29 from 1-3 p.m. at the 2037 Foxon Road venue to thank their donors and sponsors and celebrate the shelter’s 9th anniversary. Visitors will be greeted by volunteers, a glass of wine or Shirley Temple and plenty of nibbles to nosh.

The shelter had a rough year financially in 2019, but its generous supporters answered the call for support to help keep open the doors of the 22-year-old feline rescue and adoption nonprofit.

“Our sustaining sponsorship program really made the difference,” says BCC President Peg Johnson. “If it weren’t for our supporters committing to regular monthly or yearly donations, we might not be able to celebrate this anniversary. If you’ve never visited our shelter, I encourage you to stop by the March 29th party or during our regular Saturday hours of 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“Our cats are happy and well cared for, thanks to our dedicated volunteers and our even more dedicated Shelter Manager Lianne Soucy. I’m proud of our organization and the wonderful work we do.”

BCC not only helps cats, but also helps people who care enough about cats to seek help for an abandoned cat living outside or help those who are no longer able to physically or financially care for their own cats, which can be a heartbreaking and stressful situation.

While no donations will be solicited at the open-house party, information about becoming a sustaining sponsor or donating to BCC may be found at its website at http://www.branfordcompassionclub.org.

Animal Awareness Day 2020

It’s going to be that time of the year again – time to celebrate our four-legged, furry or finned members of the family with a pet festival as the Branford Compassion Club Feline Rescue & Adoption Center hosts Animal Awareness Day, noon – 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4, 2020 on the Branford Town Green.

The fun day has something for all ages, including live music, children’s activities, food trucks, live animals (mini horses!), live animal educational demonstrations, huge bake sale, booths featuring a variety of area animal care and rescue groups, as well as business vendors whom we all patronize to give our pets the best life possible, and you never know what other surprises may happen!

The first is a food and supply drive on Saturday, January 25 (snow date is Feb 1) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its shelter, located at 2037 Foxon Rd. For a complete wish list, please click here.

BCC’s second fundraiser, “Hearts for Cats,” runs during the entire month of February. It’s the purrfect gift for your valentine cat lover. With a donation of $25 or $50 you can dedicate a heart on BCC’s Donor Wall Tree of Life to that special valentine or pet. Pink hearts can be purchased with a $25 donation and red hearts with a $50. The name of that special person or pet will be inscribed on the pink or red heart painted on the donor wall tree. All donations will benefit the BCC homeless cats.

BCC is in great need of volunteers at the shelter to help feed, clean and socialize our cats. There are immediate opening for morning and evening shifts. Volunteer application forms can be found on the website or call 203-483-6369. You can also stop by any Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cats and kittens will surely help you get rid the winter blues and put a smile on your face.
